The Future is Bright!

2021 Denise Louie Dinner & Auction
Saturday, October 9, 2021

Please join us for a fun-filled evening with dinner, wine, bidding, and laughter as we celebrate 43 years of services and raise critical funds to support early learning.  We will be coming together virtually through Zoom similarly to last year as we continue to navigate the uncertainty of the times.  Let us unite together with our volunteers, donors and community members to support Denise Louie Education Center and hear about the work we are doing as you engage and connect with your virtual tables (breakout rooms). Together we will honor this year’s Dream Award recipients and help raise funds needed to close the opportunity gap.

Last year, in our first virtual auction; generous sponsors, donors, and attendees helped us raise nearly $180,000 in support of providing early learning and family support services to 900 low income children and their families in King County.  Please join us to continue our efforts to helping every child that needs it.  Especially as we understand the long lasting consequences of the pandemic, we remain committed to providing educational services for children and families. Since 1978, we have provided early learning and family support services for Seattle children so that the opportunity gap is closed before they begin kindergarten. We offer weekly home visits and education centers as well as health training for parents and children ages 0-5 years old. All designed to prepare kids for kindergarten at no cost to families. As these services are crucial to expanding a healthy community, your support is much appreciated.

Denise Louie Education Center could not exist without the important support and partnership from our community.  The Dream Award was established for the purpose of recognizing the outstanding work of individuals and organizations whose strong commitment to children has resulted in 1) increased access to early education and stability for children and families and 2) increased resources that allow Denise Louie to serve and expand its programmatic goals.  It is because of champions like these that we are able to continue to provide high quality early learning access to our youngest learners!

2021 Dream Awardees

Kai Shih

For over 8 years, Kai Shih has devoted immeasurable support to our mission of closing the opportunity gap for our children and families. He has spearheaded our Mercy Magnuson Place capital campaign and helped to negotiate the lease agreement, changing the way we look at future facilities. The opening of that site meant that an additional 97 children would receive early learning services as well as cut costs by leaving our former Admin office. But that was not enough, he took the leadership role of Board President and has led our organization through one of its hardest times. He has worked tirelessly for 2 years to help secure the Beacon Hill site and now that it's coming to an end, we know that we could not have done this with him. Kai has continually helped our organization raise the critical funds needed to sustain the services we provide. As a community leader, he has demonstrated tremendous passion in early education for children, and as a result, he has positively impacted the children of our future.

Tilth Alliance

Denise Louie Education Center could not exist without community partners to help advance our work in the community. Tilth Alliance has supported our vision of empowering children and families to reach their full potential so they can advocate for themselves, our community, and the world through helping bring food to our families.

Tilth Alliance works in the community with Washington farmers, gardeners, and eaters to build a sustainable healthy, and equitable food future. Without this partnership, a lot of our families would not have access to fresh fruit and vegetables. After all, we cannot advance education, when there is a basic need for food not being met. As a community organization, Tilth Alliance has demonstrated a tremendous passion for our families and community. Because of Tilth Alliance, families can focus on early learning and leave our program on the road to self-sufficiency and become more knowledgeable in the various ways to support their child’s growth and development. Their commitment to the community is undisputed and will forever leave a positive lasting impact on our community.

2021 Auction Chair | Jennie Cochran Chinn

Jennie has been an instrumental volunteer in our 2020 Dinner and Auction and Development efforts. Her support has led to the success of Denise Louie's first virtual auction and we are excited to have her as our 2021 Auction Chair.

"The brain is a muscle, and just like any muscle it is important to stretch and build it.  This is what early learning does - it sets the foundation for learning for the rest of a child's life.  It's fundamental for every child to have access to multicultural early learning that allows them to build that necessary foundation to be successful in life. No other organization does this better than Denise Louie Education Center." Jennie Cochran Chinn
